Forbes: Azim Premji donated 52,750 crores this year

The prestigious Forbes magazine has named Wipro founder-chairman Azim Premji (74) as Asia’s most liberal philanthropist. Premji donated shares of Wipro worth $760 million (Rs 52,750 crore) this year. So far, he has given shares worth $ 2,100 crore (1.45 lakh crore) for social work. Forbes on Wednesday released a list of the 30 largest philanthropists in Asia-Pacific. Apart from Premji, it also includes Atul Nisar and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw of India.

Azim Premji Foundation is working for the betterment of education

Forbes included a list of billionaires, industrialists, and celebrities who are constantly working towards solving the major problems in the Asia-Pacific region. Premji retired as chairman of Wipro on 30 July. They associate his Azim Premji Foundation with education. This 19-year-old institution works with 2 lakh schools across the country for the betterment of education.

Alibaba founder Jack Ma also included in the list

Nisar, founder, and chairman of Hexaware Technology, donated $1.5 million (Rs 10.5 crore) this year. She gave this amount to the Girls School Opportunity Academy near Mumbai. It educates girls deprived of academy facilities. Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and husband John Shaw gave $ 7.5 million (Rs 52.5 crore) to the UK’s Glasgow University in July. Shaw also studied at Glasgow University. Jack Ma, the founder of China’s largest e-commerce company Alibaba, is also named in the list.
