India going through troublesome stage: Pranab Mukherjee

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The previous President communicated worry that the land that gave the world the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and the civilisational ethos of resilience was presently in the news for rising dimensions of narrow mindedness.

Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said the country was “passing through a difficult phase” and expressed concern that the land that gave the world the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and the civilizational ethos of tolerance was now in the news for rising levels of intolerance, manifestations of rage and infringement of human rights.
Mukherjee was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day national conference on ‘Towards Peace, Harmony and Happiness: Transition to Transformation’, a seminar organised by the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation and the Centre for Research for Rural and Industrial Development.

“Peace and harmony prevail when a nation celebrates pluralism, practises tolerance and promotes goodwill among diverse communities and when we purge the toxin of hatred, envy, jealousy and aggression from our everyday lives,” he said.
