New Delhi, Apr 22: Tamil Nadu farmers on Saturday drank urine in protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding drought relief funds and waiver of farmers’ loans. Agitating farmers, who have come in the national capital from Thanjavur and Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu’s of Cauvery belt, drank urine to drew attention of the government towards their concerns. The farmers have vowed to eat human faeces on Sunday if the government did not pay heed to their demands.
For over a month, Tamil Nadu farmers have been protesting in Delhi in unique and bizarre way to grab attention of the government. The started their protest at the Jantar Mantar adorning human skulls around their necks. On April 10, a group of agitating farmers stripped near South Block in the national capital to press for their demands. Their demands include a drought relief package of Rs 40,000 crore, farm loan waiver and setting up of Cauvery Management Board by the Centre.

In a temporary relief to Tamil Nadu farmers, Madras High Court ordered state government to waive off loans acquired by all sections of farmers in cooperative societies. The central government also released Rs 1,447.99 crore to Tamil Nadu as financial assistance for drought relief.
