Between lockdown and corona crisis, BEST Undertaking has given its consumers three months EMI facility to pay electricity bills. The authority has given this information by issuing a statement. However, it has said that this facility is only for those accounts, whose bill is double the average of three months (March to May). Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has given its commercial and industrial customers a three-month moratorium facility at a fixed fee. BEST Undertaking supplies electricity in Mumbai and the number of customers of the company is around 1 million.
In its statement, the company said, Consumers whose electricity bill has come more than double the average of the bill for the period between March and May, they can pay in three installments along with the carrying cost. BEST as well as other power supply companies in Maharashtra, MSEDCL, Adani Electricity Mumbai, and Tata Power are facing criticism over the increased electricity bill in June.
BEST has clarified that the bills generated during the lockdown period are based on consumption in March. The authority’s residential customers are around 7.6 lakh and the number of industrial consumers is 8,836. BEST has said, Consumption generally increases in the months of April, May, and June. During the lockdown people were in the houses and in many cases it is possible to increase the household consumption due to this also.’
