Air Asia cuts salary of pilots by 40 percent

New Delhi: Air Asia has reduced the average salary of its pilots in May and June by 40%. An airline source has given information in this regard on Tuesday. The source said that the cuts in the salary of other categories and senior management will remain the same as in April. The senior management of Air Asia India took a 20% cut in salaries in April.

The salary of executives of other categories was reduced by 7-17%. However, no deduction was made for employees receiving salary of Rs 50,000 or less. The Tata-SIA joint venture airline is completing its six years of operations next week. The airline has a staff strength of 2,500. The airline has 600 pilots for its fleet of 30 Airbus A320 planes.

A source has said, Earlier a pilot was paid a fixed 70 hours even if the flight was operated or not. Now it has been reduced to 20 hours. In this way, the salary of First Officer Junion Pilot) has been reduced from Rs 1.40 lakh to Rs 40,000. The salary of the captain i.e. senior pilot has come down from 3.45 lakhs to one lakh rupees.
