Indian Economy: Sensex slumps 2074.92 points during week

Mumbai, May 9 — The benchmark Index of Bombay Stock Exchange crashed by 2,074.92 points or 6.15 pc to settle at 31,642.70 in the week under review amid high volatility following a rapid increase in new cases of coronavirus in last few days, played the spoilsport.

The nationwide lock-down was extended for another two-weeks too dented sentiments of the investors.NSE Nifty too tanked 608.40 points or 6.17 pc to settle at 9,251.50.The BSE Mid-Cap index dropped 589.64 to settle at 11,423.81. The BSE Small-Cap index skid 463.14 points to settle at 10,638.70.Domestic shares corrected sharply on Monday, snapping its four-day rising streak. Sensex tumbled 2,002.27 points to settle at 31,715.35. The Nifty 50 index lost 566.40 points to settle at 9,293.50.On Tuesday, the market extended its losing run for the second day. Sensex tumbled 261.84 points to settle at 31,453.51. Nifty ost 87.90 points to settle at 9,205.60.

Snapping a losing streak of last two sessions.The Sensex gained 232.24 points to settle at 31,685.75. Nifty 50 jumped 65.30 points to settle at 9,270.90 on Wednesday.On Thursday, May 7 2020. Sensex lost 242.37 points to settle at 31,443.38. The Nifty too fell 71.85 points to settle at 9,199.05.On Friday, May 8,2020, the market ended with decent gains supported by positive global cues. Sensex gained 199.32 points to settle at 31,642.70.
