Punjab Budget Announced: Retirement age reduced to 58 years

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh is presenting the state’s 2020-21 budget in the assembly. The Amarinder government of the state has announced in the budget to reduce the retirement age of the employees of the state from 60 years to 58 years. It is considered a big-budget announcement. Also, new recruitment is also said to start immediately. The budget says that the government will implement the report of the pay commission this year.

Budget announcements:

  • A budget of Rs 1,54,805 crore was presented in the state in 2020-21. Punjab has a total debt of Rs 2,48,203 crore.
  •  The budget of 12526 crores has been made for agriculture.
  • 13092 crores for education.
  • 4675 crores for health.
  • 901 crores for social justice.
  • 3498 crores for women child development.

Rs 270 crore has been allocated in the budget to promote sports. While 3830 crore will be worked on rural development. At the same time, 5026 crores is estimated to be spent on urban development. 2276 crore rupees will be spent on the construction of roads. Apart from this, a provision of 2029 crore has been made for water supply and Rs 2510 crore for water resources.

  • The 6% installment of DA will be released to the state employees from 1 March. The grant of DA was announced by the state government in February 2019, which will benefit around 1.25 lakh people.
  • Market fees reduced from 4% to 1%. The new industry will not have to pay 2 years of CLU.
  • The debt of the landless workers will be forgiven. For this, a provision of 520 crores has been made in the budget.
  • A budget of 200 crores has been made for crop variation. Maize crop will be promoted in the state. Apart from this, the Agriculture
  • Marketing Innovation Research and Intelligence Center will be built in Mohali for 10 crores.
  • 8275 crore for electricity subsidy to farmers in the budget, 2000 crore for loan waiver.
  • The youth will get smartphones in April, the government had kept a budget of 100 crores for it. 324 crores given to the employment generation department.
  • Three industrial parks of 1000 acres will be set up at Ludhiana, Bathinda and Rajpura. Armed Forces Parametry Institute will be established in Hoshiarpur.
