Stopping Trade from India has destroyed economy: Pak Minister

Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Minister Hamad Azhar said on Tuesday that the country’s inflation has increased because of the ban on trade with India. He admitted that inflation was increased because of seasonal factors and the role of intermediaries. Prices of vegetables are continuously increasing these days in Pakistan. Tomato prices have crossed Rs 300 per kg. Prices of green chilies, onions, and other vegetables have increased by almost 50%.

Minister Azhar said- the central government of Pakistan is talking to the provincial governments on setting up cheaper markets. For the convenience of the people, the local administration will help in providing food at a low cost. He said that inflation will come down in January-February. The government is also considering increasing the number of vegetables imported from other countries.

India used to send vegetables extensively to Pakistan

On August 5, the Government of India neutralized Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. After this, Pakistan had reduced diplomatic relations with India. Later the business was also banned. Earlier India used to export vegetables from Wagah border to Pakistan. Last month, Pakistan exported vegetables from Iran. Vegetables are sent from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
