Once again, onion prices have removed tears from people’s eyes. In the last one week, onion prices have gone up by 40% in many cities. On Tuesday, onion was being sold from 60 to 80 kg in different cities.
The government claims that onion prices will moderate in the next few days, but experts believe that onion prices will not stabilize for about a month due to delayed arrivals.
Recently Onion prices cross Rs 80
These days, onion prices in the retail markets of Delhi have reached Rs 80-90 per kg. According to the official statistics of the Consumer Affairs Ministry, onion prices in Delhi reached Rs 80 on Tuesday, selling Rs 55 a kg on 31 October.
Businessman upset
The rising and falling prices of onions in Delhi’s Azad Pur Mandi have also saved the sweat of traders. Traders said that the rate of onion was 50 to 70 rupees/kg in bulk on Monday, but on Tuesday its rate ranged between 45 and 55. Traders of Azadpur say that onion consignment is not reaching the Azadpur mandi regularly. Sometimes less and sometimes more onion is reaching.
Alwar, Nashik’s onion rate determined
Market rates fixed on onion consignments coming from Alwar and Nashik. Shrikant of Azadpur Mandi said that there was a severe shortage of onions in Alwar and Azadpur Mandi on Monday. Out of Azadpur mandi, onion was only 11000 bags, while in Alwar mandi there were 25 to 26 thousand bags of onions but in Alwar, on Tuesday the number increased to 45-46 thousand bags and in Azadpur mandi there were 17-18 thousand bags.
In such a situation, the price of 40 kg onion came to Rs 1600 in Azadpur, due to which the rate of onion fell slightly on Tuesday.
The price will be reduced if new consignment comes
Businessman Umakant of Azadpur mandi said that onion supply is very less. Due to the changes in the weather, onion is sometimes reaching less or sometimes more in the market. The rates of onion quite high for the last several days, but now it expected that the rate balanced in the market with the new shipment.
Satish Bhonde, former Additional Director of National Horticulture Research and Development, says, “Onion mandis supply is low and there will be a sharp drop in prices sometimes because the supply is low and farmers are also out of stock.
Usually, by November 1, the winter crop reaches the mandis, but this time it not happening because, in many areas of the country, the crop destroyed due to rain. Adequate supplies can see by the end of November.
Government also alerts
The government alerted about the price of onion in the retail market should not reach 100 rupees per kg. At present, the retail price of onion in 70 to 80 rupees per kg in many parts of the country.
A meeting held on Tuesday in the Ministry of Food and Supplies. This included increasing the supply of onions, bringing imported onions to the open market soon and taking action against hoarders.
