Ex Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit died on Saturday at 3:55 pm in Delhi. As soon as her death was confirmed by her secretary, condolences poured in from across the country as leaders hailed Sheila Dikshit for her role in building Delhi in her 15-year tenure as chief minister.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered their condolences on the demise of Sheila Dikshit. While President Kovind said that Sheila Dikshit’s 15 years as a chief minister was a glorious period making Delhi what it is today, PM Modi said that she “made a noteworthy contribution to Delhi’s development”.

President Ram Nath Kovind said, “Sad to hear of the passing of Smt Sheila Dikshit, former Chief Minister of Delhi and a senior political figure. Her term in office was a period of momentous transformation for the capital for which she will be remembered. Condolences to her family and associates.”

CM Sheila Dixit Remains in Delhi Heart

senior Congress leader Sheila Dixit, died on Saturday at the age of 81. Dikshit was admitted to the Escorts Hospital in the national capital a few days ago, her family and the party said. She suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed her last around 3.55 pm. “Mrs Sheila Dixit was brought in the morning of July 20 to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okhla, in a critical condition with a cardiac arrest,” the hospital said in a statement.

“A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr Ashok Seth, chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilised temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55pm on July 20,” it added.

  • Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia says: “Delhi govt has decided to observe a two-day state mourning as a mark of respect in the memory of former Chief Minister and veteran leader Sheila Dikshit. She will be accorded a state funeral.”
  • “My mother passed away, it’s natural that I’ll miss her. The pain of losing a mother cannot be erased. Whenever people will talk of a developed and growing Delhi, Sheila ji’s name will be remembered,” Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.
